Film scans for Tianna’s maternity shoot last week.

What a beautiful day it was for a maternity shoot at the studio. Mommy-to-be second time around, Tianna and her family visited for some pics of her bump and her family.

I truly love shooting maternity. It’s a serious contender for weddings and newborns, the more I do it. Just something about making life that makes the pictures extra beautiful.

On this snowy Wednesday, I spent the morning with Stephanie and family. Steph is preggers with her fourth baby, a girl. Such a good looking family, doncha think?

Remember the day you found out that you were pregnant?

Those little lines staring back at you.

You staring right back, not really believing so you rub your eyes, turn on all the lights in your house and take a magnifying glass to the teeny little booklet of instructions with those teeny little words and tinier diagrams on how to REALLY make sure the pregnancy test kit works?

And then JUST to be safe, you take another test (even when it vehemently assures it’s 99.99999% accurate on the box, and cost like $25 a stick – that’s what they cost in Malaysia, RM25).

There they are, the double lines. Or the little blue cross. Or pink words in caps, bold and underscored: YOU’RE PREGNANT.

Wow, pregnant.

I think I feel a little nauseous.

Well, for me, that was over eight years ago. Twice.

For this family here, it was just 32 weeks ago.

“I am so excited to do this,” says mommy-to-be. “Sooo excited!”

I don’t mean to sound arrogant but I do think she means the photo shoot. However, I can tell that she is excited also because this is another little ritual. Much like throwing up and the religious application of cocoa butter and the overzealous reading of expecting books, a photo shoot to document the coming of a milestone is another event that says, “Yes, our baby is on its way. And I am having pictures to prove it!”

I’ve always loved the name Madison, and looking at mom Jenn, you can tell she’s going to be a gorgeous one!
