After three years of doing this, I’ve noticed that there are some very pertinent questions that pop up almost every time, be it with regards to newborn photography, family photography, wardrobe choices and such. ALL valid, all good. Hopefully, I’ve done a good job remembering them down here. Let me know if you have any other niggling concerns I can help assuage by emailing me at jenn[at]jennifertai.net or call, at 425.463.8480!
Okay, so how much will it cost?
Please download our 2012/13 Pricing Guide. If you like what you see, please use our contact form to get in touch and we’ll schedule a little tete-a-tete!
How long is a session?
It can range from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on our direction and the mood of the subjects
Newborn sessions take about 2-3 hours because of diaper changes and nursing as well as waiting for them to be calm and peacefully sleeping (which is why newborns are advised to be no more than 12 days old; multiples at around 3-4 weeks). Outdoor sessions naturally are longer as there are more poses and opportunities. Studio sessions last around 30-45 mins.
So how many images do we get to pick from?
Around 30-50 images, depending on a few factors such as if it’s at the studio (less posing variations and opportunities), perhaps 30-40. If outside, it’s more like 50. The max I’ve shown is around 80 and that’s a REALLY good session
That still does not seem like a lot. Is that all you shoot?
I definitely shoot more but pick the best, according to my vision. But not a lot more. What you see is probably 80% of what I do shoot.
Do I get to keep the RAW files?
Since RAW files are unfinished images, we do not sell them. It would be like selling you a sketch instead of the finished painting
I also shoot a lot of film, and scans are made in JPG, so there are no RAW files. We would prefer not show how the sausage is made
Why do you shoot film?
This is an artistic choice. Film has a softer look to it, and has greater dynamic range than digital. However, I do shoot a good amount of digital, but use film when I shoot wedding portraits, groups and the wedding ceremony if there is enough ambient light. Digital is the preferred medium for low light situations.
So how long does it take for the images to be ready?
Your gallery is ready in about four weeks. Busiest time of the year is from June to September so that may take up to five weeks.
Can I share my pictures on Facebook and other social media sites?
You can share the username and password to your private online gallery with friends and family for them to view, and from there, they can share them on Facebook, Twitter and a number of other social media sites. Use is limited to just viewing though. All images shared must be credited one way or another to “Jennifer Tai Photo Artistry”. Since most of our business comes from referrals, we’d appreciate the love!
What if I do not want my images to be used on your blog, social media sites or in magazines?
We surely accommodate that request. There is a 50% “loading” to the final package price if our images are not to be used for marketing and advertising, since 90% of our business comes from having our work out there as word of mouth. This is essentially giving up any useful rights to our work and you’re buying all rights to the work outright.
Do you have a list of partner vendors you work with?
Why yes! Once you have signed up with us, we can hook you up with makeup artists, stylists and hair people
Do you travel?
Yes I do, nationally and internationally.
